TJFTZ, with a total area of 119.9km², consists of three areas:
The 30-km² Tianjin Port Dongjiang Area (including the 10-km² Dongjiang Free Trade Port Zone) is TJFTZ's core functional zone and the international shipping and logistics center of northern China. Priority in the area has been given to modern service industries, such as shipping & logistics, international trade, financial leasing, etc. The area has introduced 22 pilot-program policies in four major categories, namely international vessel registration, international shipping taxation, shipping finance and leasing business. The area hosts some 3,200 registered businesses, including 1,039 trade settlement firms, 96 shipping companies and 844 leasing companies. It also has a logistics warehouse space of 1,386,000 m².
The 43.1-km² Tianjin Airport Area (including the 1-km² airport area of Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone and the 1.96-km² Binhai New Area Integrated Free Trade Zone) is a major gathering place for enterprises engaged in advanced manufacturing, R&D and technology transfer. Priority in the area has been given to high-end manufacturing industries such as aviation & aerospace, machinery manufacturing, next-generation information technology, etc., and production services such as R&D design, aviation logistics, etc. The area hosts some 12,000 registered businesses and over 160 investment projects by some of the companies on the Fortune Global 500 list. It also has a 7.5-km² aviation logistics park. Clusters of advantageous industries such as civil aviation, machinery manufacturing, electronics and information, biomedicine, fast-moving consumer goods service among many other modern service industries have taken shape.
The 46.8-km² Binhai CBD Area (including the seaport area of Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone and the 4-km² Bonded Logistics Park) is a major gathering place for Tianjin's financial reform and innovation as well as the hub of the Binhai New Area. Priority in the area has been given to modern service industries focusing on financial innovation. The area hosts some 2,900 registered businesses and attracted over 500 financial service institutions of various kinds. It is one of the few areas in China where a full range of financial services are licensed. Currently, 63 business buildings in the CBD Area are under construction, and another 10 have been completed and open for business. The area maintains a rapid growth in fund service, factoring, leasing, financial settlement, etc.
